(KNSI) - Good news for drivers as we head into the summer driving season: Prices at the pump are tumbling.

According to AAA, prices have been trending downward since Memorial Day, which is usually when the price begins its steady climb. The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas is six cents cheaper than it was just last week.

AAA spokesperson Jeanette Casselano says domestic gas inventories sit at 235 million barrels, which is helping to feed the growing demand.

Nationally, the price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $2.68 a gallon. In Minnesota, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is even cheaper at $2.58 a gallon, which is seven cents cheaper than a week ago, 13 cents cheaper than a month ago, and 21 cents cheaper than a year ago.

In St. Cloud, according to Gas Buddy, the average price for a gallon of gas is $2.53 a gallon.
