(KNSI) - Two men were arrested after one man pulled a gun during an altercation inside the St. Cloud Walmart.
St. Cloud police say 50-year-old Mark Daniel Gibbs (right) was shopping inside Walmart at 5:34 p.m. Sunday. Authorities say Gibbs' daughter, who dropped him off outside the store, said a man had started yelling at her and physically struck her side mirror for being parked in a no parking zone.
Gibbs, of Luverne, got a description of the man and found him inside the store.
Police say Gibbs confronted the man, later identified as 60-year-old Richard Allen Waagen (left), by yelling at him and grabbing Waagen by the shoulder.
According to law enforcement, Waagen responded by drawing a handgun from his waist, pointing it at Gibbs.
Police say Waagen does have a permit to carry and claimed he was defending himself.
The police department says Waagen continued to point the gun in the direction of Gibbs while an 21-year-old employee stood between the two, before putting it away just prior to police arrival.
No shots were fired and nobody was injured in the altercation.
During the investigation, officers say Gibbs had also been in possession of a loaded handgun and hid the gun in a trashcan inside the bathroom before police arrived on scene.
Police say Gibbs, who doesn't have a permit to carry, never displayed his gun during the argument.
Both men were arrested and taken to Stearns County Jail where they're being held for court.
Waagen was arrested for 2nd degree assault with a firearm.
Gibbs was arrested on charges of threats of violence, disorderly conduct, negligent storage of a firearm and carrying a handgun without a permit.
