(KNSI) - A St. Cloud man is facing multiple charges for allegedly being a pimp, robbing people, and fighting with jail staff. Police say he threatened to rape corrections officer's loved ones.
In March 2017, Jamar Hawk Overton was accused of prostituting a woman in Waite Park starting on October 7th, 2016.
A woman called police to report she was being sold for sex but a short time later stopped cooperating with police.
On July 9th, investigators say Overton ran up to the woman while she was sitting in a car, punched her in the face and chest multiple times and stole her cell phone. She says it was the second cell phone he had stolen from her. Police say the woman was the prostitute who had contacted them earlier.
A warrant was issued for Overton’s arrest and he was taken into custody on July 23rd on a charge of simple robbery.
According to the criminal complaint, while the 28-year-old was in jail he paid for a different woman’s airline ticket to go to West Palm Beach, Florida, and told her to prostitute herself so he could get money for bail. On August 4th, the woman died of a drug overdose in Florida.
On April 12th, Overton was in court for a hearing on prostitution and robbery charges.
According to the complaint, toward the end of the hearing he became upset when his phone privileges weren’t returned to him and was escorted from court.
Officer’s say while being brought back to his cell he began to fight with the bailiffs and jail staff, causing one officer to suffer a broken thumb.
Police say at one point, he spit in the face of officers, said he would knock them out and threatened sexually assault their family members. The complaint says also threatened to have his family members assault the officers if he goes to prison.
Overton is charged with two counts of engaging in prostitution, soliciting a person to practice prostitution, 3rd degree assault, two counts of 4th degree assault of corrections officer with bodily fluids, domestic assault, and two counts of simple robbery.
He is being held on $800,000 bail. His next court date is June 18th.
