(KNSI) - A Sauk Rapids man is accused of breaking into his ex-girlfriend's home and beating her while she was in bed.
Police say Devon Antwon Vestal forced his way into the home on the 500-block of 54th Avenue North in St. Cloud around 5:30 a.m. on September 4th.
The victim says Vestal woke her after hitting her in the head and continued to punch and kick her multiple times.
Police say the victim was able to escape her bedroom and locked herself in the bathroom. Witnesses who were present during the alleged assault, say they helped her escape.
Another witness says Vestal arrived at work then started collecting his things and said he was leaving for Chicago because of problems with his girlfriend.
Investigators say they arrested the 27-year-old at his place of work later that morning.
According to the criminal complaint, he denied breaking into the woman's home and assaulting her.
He claimed she was doing this to him because she had another boyfriend.
The woman has a no-contact order against Vestal connected to a prior assault.
He's been charged with first-degree burglary, two felony counts of domestic assault, and violation of a no-contact order.
His bail is $150,000. His next court appearance is September 26th.
According to court records, Vestal has prior convictions for 5th-degree assault, domestic assault, and violation of a no-contact order.
