(KNSI) - Members of the public are being invited to an open house regarding the discovery of emerald ash borer in Stearns County.

An EAB infestation was discovered near Sauk Centre April 2.

Those who attend will learn more about EAB and the options available to stop the spread. Residents will also be able to give their opinions about the proposal to place Stearns County under a formal quarantine. An emergency quarantine was issued immediately after the discovery. If you are unable to make it to the meeting, public comment will be taken through May 17.

Emerald ash borer larvae kill ash trees by tunneling under the bark and feeding on the part of the tree that moves nutrients up and down the trunk.

The meeting is set for May 9th from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sauk Centre City Council Chambers.
