(KNSI) - A man was killed after a train hit his car early Wednesday morning.
According to the Sherburne County Sheriff's Office, the crash happened about 2:45 a.m. at a crossing just south of the St. Cloud prison.
Witnesses say the car was stuck on the tracks and the driver appeared to have been rocking the vehicle back and forth in an effort to get free.
The vehicle had turned west from Highway 10 onto a dirt road that is the driveway to a private residence.
There are no stop arms at the railroad crossing on the driveway. As the vehicle passed over
the tracks, one of the front tires went off the concrete slab that is part of the railroad crossing and
became stuck between the tracks.
The train was traveling at around 50 miles an hour and was unable to stop in time to avoid hitting the car.
The name of the victim is being withheld pending family notification.
