(KNSI) - St. Cloud State University has a new president.

The Board of Trustees of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities has named Robbyn Wacker to serve as president, effective July 1, 2018.

Wacker has served the University of Northern Colorado since 1990 in several capacities including as provost and senior vice president of academic affairs.

"Robbyn Wacker has had an impressive career in higher education as a faculty member and university executive," said Minnesota State Chancellor Devinder Malhotra.

"She is a strategic thinker, a visionary leader, and an organizational innovator who understands both the challenges and the opportunities for a public, regional, comprehensive university like St. Cloud State University. She is a pragmatist and yet she has never lost the desire to dream big, which is something the university has always aspired to do."

Dr. Wacker will take over for Ashish Vaidya who's leaving to become president of Northern Kentucky University.

Vaidya became interim president following the death of Earl H. Potter III in a car crash in June of 2016.
