(KNSI) - The Minnesota Department of Transportation has announced its 2018 schedule of road construction projects.
MnDOT says the $1.1 billion in improvements will help keep the state's roads and bridges in good working condition, improve safety for motorists and support thousands of construction jobs across the state.
"These projects are critical investments in Minnesota’s aging transportation system," said MnDOT Commissioner Zelle said.
"We will repave roads, repair and paint bridges, replace culverts and rehabilitate structures such as the Stillwater Lift Bridge."
MnDOT also announced 49 multimodal projects valued at $32 million. These include airport, port and railroad projects that are outside of the state road construction program.
Projects in MnDOT's Central region this year include Highway 10 Big Lake to Clear Lake, the Highway 10 Elk River Bridge, the resurfacing of Highway 24 from Clearwater to Clear Lake and the smoothing of Interstate 94 between Clearwater and Monticello.
Transportation officials say some of the projects are already underway, and drivers should be on the lookout for workers and be alert for lane closures and shifts, uneven surfaces, equipment and other obstacles when driving through construction zones.
