(KNSI) - St. Cloud Mayor Dave Kleis highlights public safety and roads in his proposed 2019 budget.
The budget is $75,070,000, a 1.1 percent increase or $751,000 more compared to $74,319,000 in the 2018 budget.
Kleis says despite an increase in spending most people won't see the city portion of their property taxes go up because the city's tax base is projected to grow by 5.5 percent.
"So, rather than raise taxes as new construction takes place and the community grows you capture that growth."
The budget includes a 7.5-percent increase for new road construction, repair and maintenance and a 5.2-percent increase for the police and fire departments. There's a total of $18.3 million for roads and $28.4 million for public safety in the 2019 budget.
Residents can attend budget meetings to voice their opinion or get more information. The meetings are scheduled for August 13th, 20th and 22nd from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at city hall.
The final budget will be adopted by the city council in December.
