(KNSI) - A Brooten man has been sentenced after admitting to selling a teenage girl for sex.
Christopher Jason Barkley Jr. pleaded guilty to soliciting a person under 18-to practice prostitution. A second count of sex trafficking of an individual-under 18 years old was dismissed.
He was sentenced to almost six and a half years in prison and given credit for 225 days served.
The 42-year-old started recruiting the 17-year-old girl in October of 2016.
Barkley used Facebook messages to tell the teen that she should come over to his place before school and there could be some money involved if she was serious about it.
Investigators say Barkley told the teen that he would like to train her and make her better first.
In January 2017, Waite Park police began to investigate a report that the Paynesville area girl was being sold for sex.
In June 2017, police talked with the girl who stated that she didn’t know what the messages meant but then started to cry and wouldn't look the investigator in the face.
Barkley told investigators that the messages were all talk and nothing came of it.
