(KNSI) - A man is facing felony charges after allegedly stealing a vehicle from an auto shop in Rockville and leading police on a chase.
Sheriff’s deputies were told that two men were involved in stealing a Dodge Durango from Jeff’s Auto Body on County Road 6 at 2:42 Friday afternoon. The SUV was owned by a worker at the body shop.
Deputies say they located the stolen SUV at the intersection of Highway 23 and 20th Avenue South in Waite Park and a pursuit began.
Officers say the chase reached speeds of 55 miles per hour and the suspect was weaving all over the road in a residential area. The chase was called off for traffic safety reasons.
A short time later, police learned that the SUV had been stopped in the intersection of Park Avenue South and 2nd Street South near the Boulder Tap House in St. Cloud.
According to the criminal complaint, the suspect, identified as Santiago Latrell Hogan, 18, was seen running with something in his hand.
The Minneapolis man was chased and arrested. At first, he gave police a false name but then later gave his real name.
According to the complaint, Hogan admitted that he saw the deputy behind him and didn’t stop because he was scared.
He’s been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, fleeing police in a motor vehicle and giving a peace officer a false name.
Hogan is being held on $25,000 bond. His next court date is August 3rd.
The complaint didn’t say what happened to the second suspect.
