(KNSI) - A St. Cloud radio station is raising money to help homeless kids and their families so the students can stay in school.
Wild County 99's Kelly and Wood will be at Pantown Brewing Company in St. Cloud on Thursday from 4 to 10 p.m. collecting donations and serving beer for the LEAF Student Homeless program.
"A couple of weeks ago they told us they were at about 320 families that needed help this year and just in that short amount of time we are up over 400 families that need help. So, Wood and I thought, what can we do to help these guys out."
So, the morning show duo teamed up with Pantown Brewing.
Twenty-five percent of all beer sales and tips will go to help homeless students. Kelly says you don't have to drink all the beer at once to help.
"You can buy these wooden nickels that you can gift to people or whatever, and it's good for a beer later. So, you can go buy a dozen of those, and that way, that money that night will all go to help out the LEAF Homeless Students Program."
Kelly talked about some of the ways the program helps.
"We talked to a woman who had an apartment fire and lost everything. They gave her a deposit for a new apartment. They just have this money, and they use it for good. There is no set thing that they do with it, and it's really cool."
Premier Real Estate will match donations, and Chick-fil-A has donated sandwiches that will be sold and the proceeds going to the program.
The goal is to raise $10,000 for the organization.
