(KNSI) - Work is continuing on the big Interstate 94 project between Clearwater and Maple Grove and it may slow down your drive starting Monday, October 14th. The work was supposed to start Wednesday, October 9th but officials put it off until Monday, October 14th due to the upcoming wet and chilly weather for this weekend.
There are four work areas in a 39-mile stretch of I-94 between Maple Grove and Clearwater to reduce congestion, improve safety, improve freight traffic, enhance economic vitality and provide a smoother ride.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation says drivers on eastbound 94 between Wright County Road 8 in Hasty and Highway 25 in Monticello will encounter lane closures starting at 6:00 p.m. nightly and going until noon the following day. Westbound 94 will also see lane closures starting at 5:00 p.m. nightly and going until 10 a.m. the following day. These are not hard start and stop times, but rather a broad overview of when drivers could see lane closures.
Those will continue through November.
MNDOT says motorists can expect narrow, temporary lanes, reduced speeds, non-rush hour lane closures, occasional ramp closures and delays.
The westbound 94 on/off access road between Wright Co. Rd. 37 and Co. Rd. 19 is reduced to a single lane in Albertville until Saturday, October 12.
Drivers should also watch for overnight lane closures on both directions of I-94 between Highway 241 and I-494. Those start at 7:00 p.m. nightly.
I-94 is also reduced to a single lane in both directions between Highway 25 in Monticello and Hwy 241 in St. Michael.
