(KNSI) - Officials with the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office say they are getting damage estimates after an inmate at the jail allegedly broke off a sprinkler head in his jail cell.
According to a press release, 23 year old Hobson Kimagia of St. Michael was brought to the jail July 6th by St. Cloud Police. He was initially booked on charges of obstruction and disorderly intoxication.
Once placed in a cell, investigators say Kimagia broke off the sprinkler head sending water pouring into the intake area of the jail. Water also went down onto the first floor and the basement. An elevator and several other cells were also damaged.
Investigators say they are looking at additional charges for Kimagia after the case is turned over to the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office.
A statement from Sheriff Steve Soyka says, “I commend our jail staff along with Stearns County Building Facilities staff for the quick work in responding and containing the water. Without their quick response, the damage could have been more extensive.”
