(KNSI) - An exciting day for a handful of high school sports stars, as they took part in National Signing Day on Wednesday.
Cathedral's Michael Schaefer is going to play basketball for Augustana and he says being ranked as the worst player by his coach of his AAU team in 8th grade was fuel to better his game.
"I guess I've never really looked back, I mean I've used it as motivation and it helped achieve where I'm at today," he said.
Another one of the Crusaders hoops standouts, Mitch Plombon, will play for Winona State University and says it's a dream come true.
"Its always been one of my goals since I was a kid, it's something you always dream of, taking it to the next level, and I think it's just really special to have that privilege to be able to play, because not a lot of people are able to," Plombon said.
Also at Cathedral, Allie Cornelius, who recently verbally committed to play hockey for her hometown team, the St. Cloud State Huskies, made it official by signing her letter of intent.
At Sauk Rapids-Rice, all time leading scorer in basketball Cody Landwehr signed with Bemidji State.
