(KNSI) - A man whose grandparents were found dead in their car has been arrested on murder charges.

Gregory Scheel is facing two counts of intentional 2nd degree murder, and is being held in the Kandiyohi County Jail.

The 33-year-old was included in the missing person alert about Willie and Gloria Scheel, from Paynesville, that the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension sent out Thursday.

The three lived together in Paynesville.

Investigators say Willie, 93, and Gloria, 80, were last seen at Teal's Market in Paynesville on Wednesday at 12:45 p.m.

Their car was located in a ditch along County Road 5 near Game's Lake in Kandiyohi County at around 5:10 p.m. on Thursday.

Investigators say their bodies were discovered under some carpets in the vehicle, and it was clear they did not die from natural causes.

A medical examiner has ruled their cause of death as homicide.

Investigators say Gregory Scheel was arrested on a detention order out of Kandiyohi County a little after 9 p.m. Thursday, not far from where the couple's car was located.

Through further investigation on Friday, authorities determined that probable cause existed to place him under arrest for murder.
