(KNSI) - Investigators say the shooting of a young boy in St. Cloud was accidental, and they have probable cause to arrest the child's father.
Police responded to an apartment at 1524 15th Avenue Southeast at around 11:15 Monday morning on the report of a child bleeding.
As officers arrived on the scene they were told that a female had taken her 3-year-old to the hospital with a gunshot wound.
Police say their investigation revealed that the child pulled the trigger of a loaded gun that was within his reach.
The boy suffered non life-threatening injuries and is in stable condition.
Police are looking to arrest the boy's father, William Deandre Dickerson, 28, for being a felon in possession of a firearm and negligent storage of a firearm.
Dickerson is prohibited from owning a firearm because of felony domestic assault convictions.
Police say they have located the 2002 dark-colored 4-door car with Minnesota license plate 391-XBZ that Dickerson was believed to be driving, but they're still looking for him.
Anyone with information about the incident or Dickerson's location is urged to contact the St. Cloud Police Department at 320-251-1200 or Tri-County Crimestoppers at 320-255-1301.
