(KNSI) - A lot of central Minnesotans pitched in to donate diapers for families in need.
Operation Baby New Year collected 81,149 diapers, which comes out to around $10,000 worth of diapers.
Organizer, Justin Lewandowski, really appreciates the 17 businesses and all the people who donated.
"I'd like to thank most of all, people who opened up to a conversation about the children and the families who need our support."
Lewandoski says the diapers go to shelters like Salvation Army and Anna Marie's Alliance for low income or homeless families.
He'll never forget how good a hug felt from a mother whose husband was injured at his job and was out of work.
The woman said she had to choose between keeping the electricity on or buying diapers for her kids.
Although the diaper drive missed its goal of 100,000 diapers, organizers are hoping to set up more opportunities to donate throughout the year, not just during the holidays.
