(KNSI) - A Waite Park woman is accused of burning a two year old child’s forearms.
Investigators say 33-year-old Gladys Lynda Weeks is the primary caregiver for the boy and took him to St. Cloud Hospital on March 16th for burns.
The boy suffered 2nd degree burns and was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center due to the severity of his injuries.
The child’s biological mother says the child had been living with Weeks, but she was the boy's original caregiver.
Police say, at first, Weeks told them she found the boy in a bathtub with his arms in about 12 inches of water, two days before taking him to the hospital.
Investigators say she changed her story several times.
During the child’s hospital stay he told medical staff that his “owies” came from “mommy” and that "mommy makes my hands hot." Police say he refers to Weeks as mommy.
A certified child abuse pediatrician who met with the boy, concluded that his burns were consistent with an inflicted injury or non-accidental trauma.
The criminal complaint didn't state exactly how the child was burned.
Weeks has been charged with 3rd degree assault. A summons has been issued for her to appear in court on August 13th.
