(KNSI) - St. Cloud residents came out to have Coffee with a Cop at the department's COP House in the Southside of St. Cloud.
Officer Dan McClure spearheaded the department's community policing stance years ago and says the Cop House, or community outpost, has helped them break down some walls with kids in the Southside.
"Now these are police officers that arrest people all the time, no that's not the case, we do engage with community and partnerships, and this has been the forefront, and it's been exciting and it's been tremendous."
Wednesday was national Coffee with a Cop Day where police all over the country opened their doors to welcome conversations with citizens.
McClure says the COP House is a great community policing tool that offers a wide variety of programs the community can utilize.
"We're here on a daily basis engaging the community as well, letting people know that we have these services here, it's been a tremendous support, it's been overwhelming to be honest."
Four officers are assigned to the COP House at 600 6th Ave South and 13th Street South.
CentraCare and Gold Cross Ambulance also have services based there, and there's plenty of free ice cream for the kids as well.
