(KNSI) - The St. Cloud Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors is supporting a local school district’s $1.77 million operating referendum.
The Sartell-St. Stephen School District is asking voters to increase the per pupil levy to $760 per student from $334.83, an increase of $435.17.
The district says the “Levy for Learning” would cost the owner of a home valued at $150,000 about $124. The levy would last 10 years.
The money would be used for the operational costs of the new high school and new grade configurations across the district.
The Chamber says they support the referendum, “to operate and expand district facilities in order to provide a well-educated and prepared workforce for the region.”
The Chamber issued a similar resolution of support in April 2016 for the District’s building referendum.
The regional chamber has a 5-star accreditation from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and represents over 1,000 members.
Residents will vote on the levy on November 6th during the midterm election.
