(KNSI) - Beaver Island Brewing Company will release a Hockey Day Minnesota themed craft beer just in time for the celebration of the state of hockey in St. Cloud.
The Hockey Day beer is a Czech style pilsner, that Beaver Island Brewing is naming "Check Pils."
Beaver Island Co-founder Nick Barth says the brew will help celebrate Minnesota hockey and the St. Cloud area.
"We wanted to bring something that showcased our community and kind of encompassed the spirit of hockey in Minnesota, which is really more like a lifestyle."
The craft brewery will release the beer at Boulder Tap House December 6 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
"I think that people are going to enjoy having one whether they're watching a game at home, or if they just stepped off the ice."
Barth says they have been brainstorming for the unofficial state holiday since the Hockey Day kickoff announcement in June, when the Minnesota Wild announced the event would be at Lake George.
They will also offer drafts during Hockey Day at Lake George.
There will be a Check Pils downtown pub crawl December 8 and the beer will be available in area bars and restaurants the next day.
KNSI Sports Director and part of the Wild Wake Up on Wild Country 99, Matt Wood, will be broadcasting from the pub crawl.
KNSI will drop the puck on Hockey Day coverage with high school girls action between the St. Cloud Icebreakers and the Sauk Rapids and Sartell Storm'n Sabres Friday, January 19 at Lake George starting at 6:15 p.m.
We will also broadcast the boys matchup with St. Cloud Cathedral squaring off against St. Cloud Tech/Apollo starting at 9:45 a.m. Saturday, January 20.
