The first was around 2:30 Friday afternoon when firefighters were called after a barn started on fire at 29633 County Road 2 in St. Joseph Township.
According to the sheriff’s office, Norbert Walz was clearing snow when he accidentally struck a breaker box causing sparks that started the hayloft on fire.
The sheriff’s office didn’t say what he was using to clear snow.
The 61-year-old was able to get all of the livestock out of the barn.
The second fire was around 9 a.m. on Saturday when firefighters were called to a shed fire at 22446 Edgeton Road, Munson Township, about five miles south west of Richmond.
According to the sheriff’s office, a 40x48 foot shed was on fire. The shed, owned by Patrick Burg, 49, and Jennifer Burg, 48, contained a camper, a truck, a skid loader and miscellaneous items.
The shed and everything inside was a complete loss. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
