Attorneys Asking to Delay Lawsuit

(AP) - The city of Minneapolis and a former police officer who fatally shot an Australian woman are asking a federal judge to put a $50 million lawsuit on hold.
Attorneys for Mohamed Noor, the city and others say civil proceedings should be delayed while Noor's criminal case is pending. Noor is charged with murder and manslaughter in the July 15, 2017, killing of Justine Ruszczyk Damond.
Attorneys for Damond's family say the criminal and civil cases can move forward simultaneously.
But Noor's attorneys say the civil case should be delayed so he can fairly defend himself in both cases. Noor hasn't spoken to investigators in the criminal case, and his attorneys say he can't continue to invoke the 5th Amendment while also defending himself against the civil claims.
