(KNSI) - A third GOP candidate says they will be seeking the nomination for the 7th Congressional District.
The seat is currently held by Congressman Colin Peterson who has served in Congress for the last 30 years.
Retired Air Force Major Dave Hughes says that's exactly why he wants to run.
In a press release, he says, “Collin Peterson is a prime example of what’s wrong with the DC swamp. Peterson is a career politician who’s been in office for 40 years. He supports more out-of-control spending through wasteful pork-barrel projects, higher taxes, and allowing a pathway to U.S. citizenship for illegal aliens."
He also accuses Peterson of voting lock step with the "squad" made up of MInnesota COngresswoman Ilhan Omar, New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Michigan Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib.
He says agriculture is in a "death spiral" and that Peterson has had 30 years to do something.
Major Hughes served 21 years in the Air Force. He currently lives in Karlstad, Minnesota which is in the northwestern portion of the state.
