State Investigating Use Of Force By Sheriff's Office

(KNSI) - The Morrison County Sheriff's Office is being investigated by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) for use of force after a person was seriously hurt after being shot with a bean bag round.
Deputies were called to a home in Genola, just south of Pierz, around 4:15 p.m. Wednesday about a domestic assault involving a knife.
Deputies say the subject left the scene in a vehicle.
The person's vehicle was found stuck in a field, about six miles west of Genola.
According to a press release, following a brief standoff, a sheriff’s deputy fired a bean bag round and hit the subject.
Deputies provided medical aid at the scene and the subject was taken to St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls, then by air ambulance to St. Cloud Hospital.
The subject is currently being treated for serious injuries at Hennepin Healthcare in Minneapolis.
No deputies were injured. There is no body camera video of the incident.
BCA agents will determine whether the event was captured on squad camera video.
