(KNSI) - Two shoplifting suspects are accused of leading police on a high speed chase with three young kids in the car.
The Waite Park Police Department says they got a report of two suspects fleeing Kohl's Department Store with merchandise around 5:15 Wednesday afternoon.
An employee was able to get a license plate of the vehicle which came back to 23-year-old Tyree Benton Beecham of Brooklyn Center.
He had a warrant for his arrest for robbery out of West St. Paul.
A Stearns County Sheriff's Supervisor, in an unmarked squad, found the vehicle headed southbound on Highway 15 near Interstate 94.
When officers tried to stop the vehicle, it fled eastbound on I-94 at 100 miles per hour.
Deputies tried three times to use stop sticks, but were unsuccessful.
The pursuit continued to Albertville where police learned that there were children in the vehicle and the pursuit was discontinued.
The suspect vehicle was seen exiting Albertville, then re-entering eastbound I-94 where it was slowed by heavy traffic.
A deputy was able to deploy stop sticks while the vehicle was at a slow rate of speed and disabled it.
Police say Beecham fled the vehicle into a residential area near Rogers and after a short chase was arrested.
Beecham is being held on felony theft charges, fleeing police in a motor vehicle, three counts of child endangerment, and a gross misdemeanor charge of violating a protection order.
The other suspect, 22-year-old Mahogany Essence Loggins of St. Cloud, was booked on felony theft charges.
The children, ages 5, 2 and 3 months were released to family members.
