(KNSI) - A drunk driver who crashed into a building and killed a person inside has been sentenced.

Robert Allen Johnson had a blood alcohol level of .10 when he drove his SUV 30 to 40 feet into Reliant Systems in Zimmerman on September 11th, 2017.

51-year-old Daniel Mark Elliot, of Hamburg was seriously hurt and later died from his injuries. Four others, Kim Mills, Michael Milano, Heidi Olerich and Samantha Sanders, were also hurt.

The 65-year-old was sentenced to nearly seven years in prison.

The Zimmerman man was convicted of to criminal vehicular homicide and four counts of criminal vehicular operation.

The Sherburne County Attorney’s Office says the sentence was the maximum under state sentencing guidelines.

“A great loss was suffered by the families and the community due to the actions of one person,” said County Attorney Kathleen Heaney.

“We recognize that the Court decision today will never offset the loss. We only hope that the decision will allow the families some small solace.”

He was convicted after a court trial in Sherburne County District Court in July.
