(KNSI) – Three St. Cloud State Huskies are in the running for the Hobey Baker Award, the NCAA men’s hockey equivalent of the Heisman Trophy.

Forwards Jami Krannila and Grant Cruikshank both bolstered their case to be named a finalist as they played an integral role in a weekend sweep of top-five Denver. Krannila had two goals on Friday night and assisted on both Husky tallies Saturday, the only goals scored in the game. Cruikshank notched a goal and an assist on Friday, part of a seven-goal outburst.

Also up for consideration is defenseman Dylan Anhorn. He missed Saturday’s game but figured into the scoring on Friday night with two assists. Anhorn leads the NCHC in scoring for all blueliners, having racked up five goals and 20 helpers so far this season. He is tied for second in the country in points for a defenseman.

There are three phases to selecting a Hobey Baker winner. Coaches vote for the three best players in their league and also the country as a whole. That helps set the current field. Fan voting is the primary driver in tapering the list to just ten. You can cast a ballot once per day until Sunday, March 5th.

Then the selection committee, which is made up of coaches, media, NHL scouts, and officials, winnows it to three, called the Hobey Hat Trick. Lastly, one winner is selected during a nationally televised ceremony in the spring.
