(KNSI) – Metro Bus is shifting into second gear regarding its plans for a new St. Cloud area hub.

The secondary site would be located at the intersection of 2nd Avenue South and Sundial Drive in Waite Park. A press release on Tuesday says the service has purchased the land needed for the expansion.

Metro Bus says it is updating its Long Range Transit Plan, what it calls “Metro Bus Forward.” The outline assumes a new hub for the region. The organization says it will lead to increased efficiency by allowing for shorter trips for the average rider. The benefit will be felt most by underserved populations.

Chief Operating Officer Dave Green says, “This is an exciting time for Metro Bus and our customers! As the world changes, we also need to evolve and improve. We want to ensure we always provide the best possible service to our customers and the communities we serve. We cannot wait to share what we have in store for the next 7-10 years. Stay tuned!”

Metro Bus in St. Cloud averages about 50,000 riders per month.
