(KNSI) – Sauk Rapids is looking for its next citizen of the year.

Nominations are being taken for the annual award, which goes to someone who has demonstrated outstanding service to the community. Some examples the city gives are people active in faith-based or civic organizations, those who serve on government boards or commissions, or individuals working behind the scenes for a good cause.

Brochures are available at the Sauk Rapids Government Center or online here. They have to be filled out by hand. The form asks for the nominated person’s name, address, and phone number, plus a short two to three sentence explanation about why the submitter thinks the person deserves the award.

Nominations must be in by April 8th. A committee will review them and make a final selection before the Monday, April 22nd city council meeting.

Dennis Wahl was the 2023 winner. Elizabeth Pederson and Kirsten Stiegel nominated him for his work with agricultural and church clubs. Wahl is a member of Living Waters Lutheran Church and is active with the 4-H club. He helps with fall hayrides and Christmas services at the Pederson Barn and takes part in the Living Nativity at Coborn’s during the Sauk Rapids Downtown Jingle and Mingle.
