(KNSI) – After a potential homeless shelter in St. Cloud had its request for grant funding rejected, the city council is preparing to dish out some loot.

Avivo Village applied for $196,000 from the city’s Community Development Block Grant program. The money would help design a $9 million 56-bed facility on an acre of land near a drainage pond by Costco. While city staff recommended approval of the measure, earlier this week the planning commission rejected the request when it proposed to the council how the funds should be split up.

During Monday’s city council meeting, the members will consider giving Avivo $232,000 in unused CDBG funds from 2022 and 2023 to design the building. The unused money comes from projects that didn’t progress as planned.

The meeting is at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
