(KNSI) — The inaugural BOLD+BRIGHT festival takes over downtown St. Cloud beginning Thursday.

Visit Greater St. Cloud Executive Director Rachel Thompson tells KNSI News the event will see the return of some festival favorites, but it will also feature new activities, like street curling. Thompson says North Star Curling a “wonderful partner. They are pretty much encompassing in themselves. They’ve got the volunteers, they’ve got the equipment, they’ve got the knowledge, and the excitement.”

Other highlights include Thursday’s Winter Dance Party at the Paramount Center. It recreates the final tour of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and The Big Bopper.

The film “Super Mario Brothers” will be shown on an outdoor screen Friday night.

Saturday has a winter market, ice carving demonstration, a laser light show, and the lighted parade, which will start and end at the Lady Slipper Lot. It steps off Saturday evening at 5:00. Another thing to keep an eye out for is the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile, which will be parked near the Capital One Café on Saturday night.

BOLD+BRIGHT Sunday wraps up with brunch.

Thompson says the St. Cloud Downtown Alliance made a conscious effort to create a Hallmark Channel-style winter wonderland. The four days of events are designed to attract visitors from across the state and region for a long weekend. It also means focusing on the business district, at least this year. “We are planning it in the core of downtown, so along [West St.] Germain and into Fifth [Ave.] Some of the side streets are going to be used as well, but for the core of downtown, that’s where the programming will happen. We do have plans for expansion into future years for Lake George as well.”

BOLD+BRIGHT will join Granite City Days and Festi-Fall as the biggest annual city events.
