(KNSI) — Organizers of the Maple Lake Ice Fishing Derby say the lack of ice is forcing them to cancel, but it won’t be a complete bust.

A press release cited inconsistent ice and the upcoming warm spell as the reasons. This is the second year the fishing derby has been canceled due to weather and safety concerns. The committee will still continue their raffle sales for an Ice Castle Fish House.

Tickets can be bought for $10 at Madigan’s, H&H (Mel’s), Maple Lake Legion, DJ’s Deal Depot, Cenex and Maple Lake Wine & Spirits. The winner will be drawn at Madigan’s in Maple Lake “at 8:00 p.m.-ish” (according to its website) on March 16th during the St. Patrick’s Day celebration.

2024 would have marked the 49th annual derby. Mark your calendar for next year’s event on February 8th, 2025.
