(KNSI) — Even with our sometimes terrible weather and daycare costing a fortune, Minnesota is still one of the best places in the country to raise a family.

Personal finance website WalletHub looked at all 50 states across 50 key indicators of family friendliness.

With an aggregate score of 62, Minnesota ranked third as the best place to lay down family roots. Last year, Minnesota was second overall.

The state was first regarding low unemployment rates, second for highest median family income (adjusted for cost of living) and lowest percentage of families in poverty. The state has the third-highest life expectancy at birth and some of the best public hospitals in the country. We ranked fifth for childcare affordability (adjusted for median family income) and sixth for the percentage of families with young children and low separation and divorce rates. We also have one of the largest shares of children living in neighborhoods with parks or playgrounds.

For the second year, Massachusetts came in first. North Dakota came in fourth last year but landed at number two in 2024. South Dakota came in eighth, Iowa landed at 11th, and Wisconsin ranked 13th.
