(KNSI) – The Minnesota Department of Revenue will release one-time public safety funds to local and county governments next week.

Area municipalities are well-represented, including $3,008,346 for St. Cloud. Police and fire ranked as the second priority for the city’s residents in this year’s survey.

Sauk Rapids is receiving $600,829, with Sartell and Waite Park at roughly $854,289 and $366,186 respectively. Nearby Cold Spring has been allocated $184,143. In total, $300 million is being spread out across the state.

Benton, Sherburne, and Stearns Counties are all included, too. Stearns will receive the most locally at $2,769,762. Sherburne is next with $2,232,392. Benton County is in line for $815,814.

Walz spoke in Lino Lakes recently about what the money will be used for. “This funding will allow public safety officials to invest in the things that matter most to their communities, whether that’s officer recruitment and retention, a new ambulance, or fire and rescue equipment.”

Other potential uses include first responder counseling and training, mental health crisis teams, and victim services.
