(KNSI) – A potential home invasion leads to the 32nd homicide of the year for St. Paul.

Police say they got a call from a woman who lives on Englewood Avenue at about 1:45 Monday morning. She stayed on the line, and the phone was passed to a man who told dispatchers he had shot the person.

The department says a second phone call came in, this time from the alleged intruder. He warned he was dying, and the line went silent. The man was taken to Regions Hospital and has since died.

Police say both the man and woman who made the initial call have been questioned about the incident, and an investigation is still ongoing. No one involved has been identified yet.

St. Paul is slightly behind its recent pace regarding homicides. It recorded 40, an all-time high, in 2022 and had 38 in 2021.
