(KNSI) – A local business is asking you to make out an extra Christmas card or two this holiday season for our area’s most vulnerable population.

Batteries Plus Bulbs is collecting the cards until December 18th. CEO Bernie Perryman says looking after the elderly is something she takes seriously as a private business owner and public official.

“One of my part-time jobs is a Minnesota House Rep. And nursing homes was one of the items we kept fighting for to get more funding because they are in dire need of more funding, and it’s just not the way you should be treated when you become of the age that they are in nursing homes.”

Perryman says not everyone will be surrounded by family, and they deserve happiness too. “I’m encouraging a personal touch, a handwritten note. Not to a specific person but just to say ‘God bless you,’ Happy holidays,’ and ‘People are thinking of you.’ Little things of that nature that can make a person smile.”

Drop boxes are set up at the business’ two area locations, or you can hand your cards off to staff. Perryman says the campaign got a big boost early Friday when she got members of the Chamber of Commerce involved at a weekly meeting.
