(KNSI) – The Downtown Jingle and Mingle will light up Sauk Rapids on December 9th.

Festival Coordinator Marla Elness says the event is meant to be a boost to area businesses. “We’ve focused a lot of our Downtown Jingle and Mingle on our shopping to promote a lot of what our downtown businesses are offering, as well as we put together an artisan market at the Riverside Terrace in our new park at The Clearing.”

In addition to shopping, you can take a horse-drawn wagon ride, enjoy Llama Wonderama, a Living Nativity display, an open house at the Benton County Historical Museum on 2nd Avenue South, sidewalk carolers, and a meat raffle at Danny’s Dugout to benefit the Sauk Rapids boys’ hockey team.

The most anticipated activity is the lighted parade. Entries will begin making their way along 2nd Avenue at 5:00 p.m. There is no theme, but Elness says the floats will be judged, and the four that score highest receive a cash prize.

“No matter what you do in your unit, they are looking for your effort and your color and your enthusiasm, and even your involvement with the audience, so they will use all those determinations to judge who wins first through fourth place. And we have cash awards for those winners.”

The best are selected by a five-person panel made up of wives from the Benton County Sheriff’s Department. You must be signed up for the parade by Thursday.
