(KNSI) – Minnesota Congressman Dean Phillips’ campaign for president will get off to a hot start, according to a New Hampshire political official.

Chris Ager is the GOP chair in the Granite State. He says that despite attempts by the Democratic National Committee to push it back, the state’s primary will remain the first in the nation for the 2024 cycle. The date is expected to be January 23rd. Ager explained why it has yet to be announced.

“Our state law requires us to be one week prior to any similar contest or any other primary. And the Iowa Democrats, they at one point made their caucus look like a primary, and so our Secretary of State was holding off.”

Ager says he anticipates that within a couple of weeks, it will be set with the Iowa caucuses on January 15th, followed shortly after by the New Hampshire primaries.

Ager says the president will lose the race there. “Joe Biden will not be on the ballot here. Last time he ran here, he came in fifth place, and so instead of campaigning here, he decided, well, I can’t win there. Let me put South Carolina first, but our state law doesn’t allow that.”

Phillips is expected to register in New Hampshire before Friday’s deadline.
