(KNSI) — A St. Cloud woman is dead after a freak accident Saturday afternoon on Interstate 94.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol’s preliminary crash report, a Freightliner semi was headed west on 94 near Highway 241 in St. Michael when two tires broke off, rolled into oncoming traffic, and hit an eastbound SUV.

The driver, 44-year-old Viengkhone Nguyen of Brooklyn Park, was killed. As was the passenger, 43-year-old Lea Khamphachanh of St. CLoud. Three other passengers, Pane Eisenschenk of St. Cloud, Phetsamai Khamphachanh of Sartell, and Tiana Kanlaya Deppa of Rice, were taken to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale with non-life-threatening injuries.

The semi driver, 37-year-old Khadar Abdullahi Hawadle of Savage, was not hurt.

Allina and North Ambulance, St. Michael Fire Department, and the Wright County Sheriff’s Office assisted the state patrol at the scene.
