(KNSI) – More color is coming to a downtown St. Cloud alley.

Muralist Jen Steinkopf’s butterfly in the walkway behind the Radio City Music Mall, where KNSI’s studios are, has become a popular photography spot since it was painted a couple of years ago. Now, a new scene is taking shape. It’s just outlined in white primer for the moment, but Steinkopf promises the result will be eye-catching.

She says, “This metal panel we have here right at the entrance is going to be kind of like a color block, stained glass, like –inspired by the butterfly, but it’s gonna help people driving by, walking by, pull them in to come walk down the alley.”

The goal of the mural is to make downtown St. Cloud feel more welcoming by brightening up some of the area’s backways and other imposing spots. The mural will be called “Springing in the Rain.” Steinkopf says she doesn’t yet know when the work will be completed.

“It’s the angles and the straight lines, that’s what really gets the time going. So I can’t give you a date because of the weather. I got rained on yesterday, and I didn’t even have my umbrella painted.”

It shows flowers springing up thanks to gentle showers from blue and white clouds above. There will also be a larger-than-life purple umbrella in the final design. The St. Cloud Downtown Alliance and the St. Cloud Area Chamber of Commerce commissioned the project.
