(KNSI) – The Stearns County Parks Department released its seasons in the park summer review Thursday.

Quarry Park and Nature Preserve in Waite Park saw the debut of goats. They’re chomping their way to a hearty diet of invasive species like buckthorn. The animals will be grazing in summer 2024 and 2025 as well.

Other events held at Quarry Park were the summer camp series, the Rock Your Sole 5K, and the Youth for Christ Rock Climbing outing. Stearns County estimates that 81,000 visited the park this year.

The report also highlighted archery events at Mississippi River Park in Rice. The Great River Archery Club held a 3D shoot, and the Minnesota State Archery Association hosted its state tournament at the park, among many others. Mississippi River is also a favorite of area scout troops.

There was major construction at various sites. Rockville County Park got a new boardwalk near the canoe campsite. The roof was replaced on a restroom and open-air shelter at Spring Hill County Park. A large portion of the Lake Wobegon Trail was seal coated, and crack filling occurred on the entire trail.

The department says there are plenty of volunteer opportunities this fall. A link to sign up is here.
