Football

Two area teams were shut out to start the year. Rogers took down Sartell, 45-0, and the Tech Tigers were blanked, 28-0, by Cambridge-Isanti.

Chisago Lakes 44, St. Cloud Apollo 38 F/3 OT: The Eagles and Wildcats both scored touchdowns, plus a two-point conversion, in the first and second overtimes. Only Chisago Lakes had an answer in the third, courtesy of fullback Evan Lavalle. It was his fifth touchdown of the game. Apollo capitalized on some big plays in regulation. A 49-yard-pass from quarterback Da’Vion Jackson to Maurice Brown put the Eagles up 8-7 in the second quarter. The defense returned a fumble 88 yards to make it 22-14 Eagles at the time.

Becker 40, Hill-Murray 14

New London-Spicer 48, Albany 20: The Wildcats hit the Huskies hard and fast. New London-Spicer led at halftime, 35-0, thanks to a quick start. Mason Delzer crossed into the end zone with 11:48 still left on the scoreboard in the first. He scampered 65 yards for the score, one of four touchdown runs for Delzer.

Volleyball

Central Lakes Conference

Sartell 3, Sauk Rapids-Rice 1 (25-20, 25-21, 22-25, 25-23): Two rivals went toe-to-toe in an early season conference matchup. Every game was hard-fought. Abby Haus was the star for the Sabres. Ava Athman was the only Storm player to reach double figures in kills with 10. She also added ten blocks, which was a team-high. Jordyn Lee contributed eight kills and four blocks, along with seven kills and four blocks from Josie Anderson.

ROCORI 3, Brainerd 0 (25-8, 25-11, 25-22): Kate Holthaus led the Spartans with 18 kills.

Willmar 3, Apollo 0 (25-8, 25-12, 25-12): The Cardinals improve to 2-2, perfect in the Central Lakes Conference so far. Apollo is 0-4, 0-2.

Granite Ridge Conference

Foley 3, Staples-Motley 0 (25-19, 25-15, 32-30)

Paynesville 3, Dassel-Cokato 0 (25-12, 25-13, 25-14)

Boys Soccer

Central Lakes Conference

Sartell 9, Fergus Falls 3: The Sabres remain perfect. They led this one almost wire-to-wire. Anthony Colatrella scored in the first minute. Baylor Stebbins had two, as did Seth Davidson. Sartell led at halftime 6-1.

Alexandria 2, Sauk Rapids-Rice 1: Leif Rudnick tallied the Storm goal. The assist went to Mason Meyer-Thovson.

Apollo 4, Becker 0: The Eagles are now 2-1 on the season.
