(KNSI) – The Stearns County Hazardous Waste Unit will be busy this week.

There are two mobile collections scheduled for Wednesday. The group will be at the Greenwald Rec Center from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., and then it has to pack up and head 30 miles down the road to the Eden Valley Public Works building. They’ll be there from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

The collection is for unsafe or nuisance items lying around the house. Paints, stains, fluorescent bulbs, car seats, pesticides, cleaners, batteries, old ammunition, lead tackle, Christmas lights, sharps, poisons, roofing tar, fuels, automotive fluids, sealers, garden chemicals, pool chemicals, adhesives, aerosols, solvents, mothballs, and mercury are all accepted.

Used motor oil, antifreeze, explosives, furniture, household garbage, tires, medical waste, appliances, or other unknown products will not be taken, along with business waste. The collections are for households only.

When the calendar rolls into September, it is probably the group’s largest event, a seven-hour outing at the Benton County Public Works building starting at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, the 9th. The season wraps up in Kimball at A.M. Maus and Sons from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, the 23rd.

Dropping off items is free. The program is put on by the Stearns County Environmental Services Department.

It also has a Household Hazardous Waste Facility open year-round in Waite Park located at 3601 5th Street South. It is open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. – 4:15 p.m. and the second and third Saturdays of the month from 8:00 a.m. to noon.
