(KNSI) – St. Cloud Mayor Dave Kleis is restarting historic tours of the city.

The first one will be on foot, but the trolley trips will also be back soon. Kleis told KNSI News that prior to COVID, the outings were common. It is scheduled for Tuesday, August 22nd, at 10:00 a.m., starting at the River’s Edge Convention Center.

Kleis says he has been laying the groundwork for the tour since April. “Starting those up again. I mentioned actually in my State of the City that I’d be doing some this summer and probably will be doing additional ones in the fall.”

It should last about 90 minutes, and there is no cost to tag along. Kleis says you can just show up, or you can call his office to RSVP.

Kleis says it will not be a ‘one and done’ event, and eventually, they will branch out into other locations.

He says, “We’ll be doing more of these. Putting trolley tours on both the east and west side but this one, predominantly, will be focusing on the historic downtown.”

The mayor will stick to areas along the Mississippi River, 5th Avenue, and West St. Germain Street. Kleis began doing the tours just after he became mayor 18 years ago, but they were suspended in 2020.
