(KNSI) – A Morrison County Sheriff’s deputy is fighting for his life after being hit while directing traffic Saturday night near the Pierz Freedom Fest.

The 10th annual event included a concert with two popular country musicians. Playing on the stage were Jo Dee Messina and Kip Moore. As the concert let out, 26-year-old deputy Brady Pundsack was helping with traffic control on Highway 25 when he was struck by a Ford Edge SUV heading north.

The Edge had two people inside. Neither the 17-year-old male driver nor the 16-year-old female passenger were hurt. No details have been released by the Minnesota State Patrol on what caused the accident.

Sheriff Shawn Larsen wrote on Facebook Sunday, asking for people to hope for the best. “At this time, we are asking the public to keep the Deputy, family, friends, and colleagues in your thoughts and prayers. In times like this we are reminded of the risks that our law enforcement officers take each day to protect and serve our communities.”

Pundsack was sworn into the sheriff’s office on November 5, 2020, according to its Facebook page. Pundsack lives in Flensburg and serves on the city council there, in addition to his career in law enforcement.
