(KNSI) – The National Weather Service office in Chanhassen says most of central Minnesota has a marginal risk for severe thunderstorms on Saturday.
That is the lowest classification, meaning bad weather is unlikely but could occur. NWS says to continue to monitor the situation and look for updates if you have plans for late afternoon or into the evening hours.
Damaging hail, heavy rain, and strong winds are the primary threats with the system. It covers Sherburne County entirely and most of Benton and Stearns Counties, outside of the northern portions.
Current models show the southern part of the state with the best chance for storms, listed as a slight risk. That includes a half circle that ranges from the Iowa border to Worthington, arcing to Mankato, and over near Rochester.
A marginal risk means isolated severe weather is possible, but storms are limited in scope or intensity. Slight risk suggests the storms are scattered, not widespread, and short-lived.
