(KNSI) – Minnesota Family Magazine held the launch event for its Spring 2023 issue at the Great River Regional Library main branch Friday.

It is the third edition of the St. Cloud area periodical. Publisher Jason Roering says now that they are in the swing of things, he is working ahead with the summer edition set for July. The magazine should come out on a roughly quarterly basis. Roering talks about what readers can expect.

“The editorial concept is a mix between the interviews with the families and articles that are meaningful from a contributing writer’s heart that could make a positive impact on their life.”

The spring issue features four area mothers on the cover. Inside, they talk about the lessons they have learned as they start a new family.

Allison Kampa is one of those moms. Kampa talks about how she got involved.

“I met Jason through the Chamber [of Commerce] and just kind of connected on our advertising history and then he knew that I was expecting very close to Caitlin. We actually had our babies about a week apart. He asked if I wanted to be involved and I said, ‘Absolutely.'”

Allison says having a newborn helped her relationship as she and her husband learned how to work as a team. She says they take turns to give each other a break as much as possible.

Amanda Hackett has a two-year-old and another on the way. She says the inability to be spontaneous when eating out or going to the movie theater has been one of her biggest adjustments.

“Your schedule is not your own anymore. There’s no just, ‘Oh, I’m gonna run out and do this,’ or ‘Let’s have a date night tonight.’ There’s always planning that goes around it but wouldn’t change it for the world.”

Caitlin Heglund is another cover mom who was at the launch party. Caitlin says she has dreamed of being a parent for years. Her son is about seven months old now and she has taken to heart a saying to ensure she doesn’t miss his progress.

“I’ve got a sign I have hanging right outside my son’s bedroom, ‘The days are long but the years are short.’ It’s funny how week one, even, I felt so glad I have that reminder on the wall because I’m like I can’t even believe he’s a week old, right? And now, here we are seven months later, and I keep forgetting he’s seven months old.”

Caitlin says having a baby is like having an extension of your heart living outside of your body. She says she has found new ways to love others since Rhett was born.
