(KNSI) – Congressional Republican lawmakers are pulling no punches in their reaction to the recent Minnesota state legislative session.

A statement cosigned by U.S. Representatives Michelle Fischbach and Tom Emmer says they have been questioned by congress members from across the country in recent weeks about what is going on in St. Paul. They write that state lawmakers recklessly blew through an $18 billion surplus and the rebates approved are a fraction of what was promised.

The letter says, “Governor Walz and the Democrat-controlled legislature duped Minnesotans.” They add the social agenda is “anti-police, anti-freedom, and anti-common sense” and anything but One Minnesota.

The GOP members singled out gun control laws, driver’s licenses for noncitizens, and what they called California-style Green New Deal measures for criticism. The other theme of the statement focuses on new taxes that will mostly offset the $260 rebate checks being sent out, rather than the $2,000 committed to during the campaign.

Fischbach and Emmer represent Minnesota’s 6th and 7th Congressional Districts, which stretch through a wide swath of Greater Minnesota. They cover an area from the northern Twin Cities suburbs to St. Cloud and over to the North and South Dakota borders
